Non-Narcotic Pain Medicines

Non-narcotic pain medicines, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or ibuprofen (Advil®), can be prescribed in higher doses to help manage your pain. You may decide to try these medicines before using narcotic pain medicines or you may take them in addition to narcotic pain medicines, as prescribed by your doctor.

Before taking any pain medicine, over-the-counter (OTC) or otherwise, you should talk to your care team to ensure that it is safe for you. Even OTC pain medicines can have serious side effects or interact with your cancer treatment, so it is crucial to speak with an expert before using this treatment method.

Spine Injections and Intrathecal Pain Pumps

Our interventional pain management experts can use injections of pain-relieving medicines into your spine to block nerve pain signals. We are also one of the few practices to also offer intrathecal pain pumps that provide a continuous low-dose of pain medicine to keep you pain-free. The pump is implanted during a single spine surgery and can be left in place until you no longer need it.

Nerve Stimulation

Nerve stimulators use small electric signals to disrupt pain signals in your nerves. These stimulators can be implanted during surgery and offer long-term pain relief. Before your stimulator is implanted, you’ll do a trial run with a temporary stimulator to ensure it works well for you. If the signals help stop your pain, then you can move forward with surgery.
