Reasons to Always Use Proper Lifting Techniques

Here is why you should always use proper lifting techniques

Many individuals are ignorant of the basic techniques required to lift an object whether light or heavy. If you don’t follow due process when trying to lift objects, it can cause several injuries to the body. The following are some of the possible detrimental effects of improper lifting techniques and why you should always try to ensure you lift objects properly:

Muscle Injury

You risk stressing your muscles when you don’t lift an object properly. This predisposes your muscles to injury. Too much stress on the muscles can lead to tiny tears or muscle strain leading to back pain, lower back problems and neck pain.

Joint Injuries

Joints provide support and flexibility to the body, allowing you to handle the stress of lifting things. However, with improper lifting techniques, the joints can become stiffened or locked. This can lead to serious pain and injury.

Disc Injury

Discs are located in between the vertebrae of the spine and they serve as shock absorbers. Poor lifting techniques can rupture a disc in the spine leaving the individual with back pain which will require treatment from a spine doctor.

Preventing injuries and spine stress

Using the proper technique when lifting objects (especially heavy objects) is one of the ways you can prevent muscle, spine and ligament injuries as highlighted above. You should also stay active and perform exercises that stretch and strengthen your muscles. However, if you are experiencing Sciatica pain, lower back pain or neck pain, we recommended that you come in to speak to our spine care professionals at the Spin Care Center, Manassas VA. They will recommend appropriate treatment options for the symptoms you are feeling and also provide you with information on how to prevent injuries and avoid stressing your spine.
