Trigger points are small knots in your muscles that can cause pain. The pain may spread from your muscle to other areas of your body that don’t seem connected. They can cause pain in your jaw, back, shoulders, and many other areas of your body.
A trigger point injection uses steroids and anesthetic medicines to relieve pain. The injection is placed directly into the trigger point and can provide relief for months. You can receive injections in multiple areas of your body for total pain relief. You can also have repeat injections if your pain returns.
At The Spine Care Center, we treat all types of pain, regardless of whether it is located in your spine or muscles. Our pain medicine experts are dedicated to improving your quality of life and helping you live a pain-free life.
Most patients will not need to do anything to prepare for a trigger point injection. In some cases, you may need to avoid taking certain medications before your injection. Always talk to your doctor about any medications, including herbs and supplements, you are currently taking.
You can receive a trigger point injection at our office in Manassas. Your pain medicine doctor will identify which trigger points are causing you the most pain. They will then inject the medicine into the trigger points and cover the injection sites with bandages.
Your entire appointment will take about 30 minutes.

We will monitor you for approximately 10 minutes after your trigger point injection to look for any adverse reactions to the steroids. Once your doctor clears you to go home, you can drive yourself. You should rest for the remainder of the day.
You should be able to return to your normal activities the next day. You should experience pain relief within a day or two. Rarely, steroid medicines may cause side effects like a flushed face or trouble sleeping. Always speak to your physician about possible side effects.
